First event of 2012 is in the books. Birch Bay 1/2 goal time was 93 minutes and I finished in 96:18. I am trying to not let the time result dampen the positive energy I feel towards the effort and compete levels this morning. It became clear nearing 7 miles that I was a few minutes behind what I felt was optimal pace and although pushing at an average of 190 bpm and a high of 207 bpm for the last 4 miles I couldn’t overcome the strong headwinds inbound to the flat-out shoulder to shoulder foot race that was my finish.
All in all I am pleased and yet frustrated to feel nary an ache or pain from the effort.
