With the conclusion of this week, I have hit the end of the 3 week half way point in the shortened training cycle that leads Into the Whister 50. Fatigue is beginning to turn into strength and with each passing day and work-out session I am beginning to notice the difference the consistency and structure are making. The first 21 days haven’t been perfect on my end but results are beginning to take shape, its exciting, and totally re-energizing. I feel like an 8yr old running wild.
I have been giving a lot of thought as to what I expect and what I would define as a success from this event. Not having a real 50 mile time base progress off its a bit of a tough call. The only other ’50′ mile event was Twin Peaks last February in Corona, California. It turned out to be a ~54mi effort with near 16,000ft of gain, not the normal parameters for gauging efforts against each other. I have decided that ~ 9hrs will be the target. Obviously this is a bit of a shot in dark not having seen the full course or know anything about it but that’s the target.
